Fancourt Outeniqua

Scenic, forgiving, and lush — ideal for leisure golfers who want championship quality with playability.

Fancourt, located in the heart of South Africa’s Garden Route, offers two prestigious 18-hole golf courses: the Montagu and the Outeniqua. Both courses are ranked within South Africa’s Top 25 and are exclusively available to members, who are homeowners and hotel guests, with no access for day visitors.

Outeniqua Course: Designed by Gary Player, this course is the shorter of the two, measuring 5,986 meters (6,546 yards) from the men’s club tees, compared to Montagu’s 6,324 meters (6,916 yards). It is generally considered more forgiving and easier to score on, making it a favourite among beginners and intermediate golfers

Shared Features
  • Both Outeniqua and Montagu courses boast superb conditioning and fast-paced firm greens, emphasising the importance of a strong short game.
  • The terrain is gently undulating with notable elevation changes, particularly along the tree-lined boundaries of the property.
  • The Outeniqua course features an out-and-back layout through the Fancourt residential estate, returning to the clubhouse only after the 18th hole, and includes a separate halfway house.
Outeniqua Course Details
  • The course begins in front of Monet’s restaurant with an undulating opening hole, a short par 4, setting the tone for the round.
  • Water hazards are present on 11 holes, and the course is well-bunkered from tee to green.
  • The final stretch includes a memorable parkland arena with two strong par 4s, a par 3 with a peninsula green, a downhill par 5, and a shortish par 4 to finish.
Facilities and Rules
  • Fancourt has a strong local community caddie program, allowing golfers to employ caddies to carry bags or serve as forecaddies for those using carts.
  • A warm-up area with a full-length range and chipping and bunker practice area is available to all golfers before play.
  • Golf carts are available for hire, weather permitting, and it is mandatory for at least two caddies to accompany each four-ball and one caddy per two-ball to ensure a steady pace of play.
Overall Experience

Playing at the Outeniqua course, nestled at the foot of the majestic Outeniqua mountains, offers a calming and rejuvenating experience. The course’s challenging design and fine conditioning ensure an excellent test for golfers of all levels. With various tees to choose from, golfers can select a challenge that suits their skill level, ensuring an enjoyable and uncrowded experience due to the restricted access.
